Module 5: Library Online Catalog
In this unit you will explore your library’s online catalog. Your exploration will allow you to become familiar with the catalog and its features so you may find books and information for yourself or for library patrons.
In this unit you will:

Step One: Watch this video on how to use basic search functions in the Destiny Quest Catalog.
Step Two: Take Quiz #1 using the catalog to complete the searches and answer the questions.
Step Three: Watch the second video for advance search strategies.
Step Four: Take Quiz #2 on advanced search techniques.
Step Five: Log into Destiny Quest Catalog with your LAUSD email address. Watch the third video for social features available with the log in only. Do the following (1pt. each):
Send a friend request to Ms. Kantor
Find a book you read and rate it.
Find a book you read and write a review
Recommend a book to Ms. Kantor
Add one item to each of your shelves.
Step Four: Watch this video on using eBooks. Check out one book. Answer the following questions in the form below about your experience using ebooks.
How did you find the book?
Which vendor did you use (Mackin or Follett)?
Did you log in as a user or as a guest? Why?
Describe how was the process of opening and reading the book, including both positives and negatives. Include any features you used. (For example, was it easy to read and adjust the size of text/page for visual comfort? What do you wish you could that you could not? )

In this unit you will:
- Become familiar with several of the features and functions of the library’s online catalog
- Be able to assist our patrons by answering their questions and assist in the use of the online catalog
- How many books do you read each year (give me an estimate or an average, i.e. one book a week, one book a month)?
- What kind of books do you prefer to read in your own time?
- Do you own an ereader or use an ebook app on your computer/mobile device? If so what kind(s) (i.e. Kindle Fire, Kindle app, Nook, iBooks, etc)?
- Do you prefer print or ebooks? Or both? Why?
- What is your favorite tool to use for school research projects and why?
