Module 4: Basic Library Skills
This unit provides you with the lessons and activities that will train you in basic library skills and maintenance. In this unit you will learn:

Start with level 1, sorting and then moving on the all levels of shelving and reordering.
When you get the certificate for each level, press “Alt” + “PrtScn” to take a picture of the screen. Then, in an email, press “CTRL” +”V” to paste it in an email to me. In the subject type Shelving Tutorial Level x (x= the level number completed).

Module Due Date: End of the first week.

- Step One: Click on the Your Daily Routine Lesson link and ask for the Library Assistant Group and Individual Checklist. Read the lesson and checklist. You do not have to print this out. Copies of the checklist will be in the designated folder for you take each week as needed. (Please let me know if you take the last one so I can make more copies.)
- Step Two: Send me an email and discuss your daily routine and how you and the other students in your period plan to complete the tasks. This may require discussion and sharing of duties. Duties will overlap; all students are expected to work as part of the library staff team. The goal is to have a library that is clean, orderly, and accessible. Ask the Librarian to walk through the checklist with you if you are confused. You will need to complete this Module before you can do all the items on the checklist.
- Step Three: Click on the Dewey Classification and Call Number Lesson link below. Print and read the lesson. If you have questions or concerns, note them in your journal, and then ask your instructor. Keep the handout in your folder for future reference.
- Step Four: Click on the Shelving Library Books Lesson link below. Print and read the lesson. If you have questions or concerns, note them in your journal, and then ask your instructor. Keep the handout in your folder for future reference.
- Step Five: See Ms. Kantor if you have questions about either of these.

- Step Seven: Upon successful completion of the activity, you will be assigned the sections of the library that you will shelve, clean, and keep orderly.
- Step Eight: Send me an email. Discuss what you learned, how you feel about what you are expected to do and any another thoughts or concerns you have about your work in the library. Turn in the activity to your instructor.
